March 19, 2009Don’t Hate… Just enjoy…
February 3, 2009
Last night Kobe scored 61 points at Madison Square Garden vs. the Knicks. Breaking the all time points record and the most points by an opponent. Which opponent held the record? Jordan
Just look at the numbers…
58 points vs. Charlotte Bobcats
60 points vs. Memphis Grizzlies
62 points vs. Dallas Mavericks (in just 3 quarters of play!)
65 points vs. Portland Trailblazers
(24) 50+ point games in his career! (4 straight 50+ point games in a row)
9 straight games he scored 40+ points
Oh yeah then there is the 81 points vs. Toronto Raptors January 22, 2006. Second highest of All-time!
By the way; He is the reigning 2008 NBA MVP & 2008 Olympic Medalist as he personally (don’t believe watch the game) lead USA to gold.
Yep.
Orlando Trip Recap
January 20, 2009
This past weekend my family and 14 others drove back down to Orlando. This was one of what I hope to be many “vision trips” over the coming months. I actually can’t believe I took a vision trip 2 months into this new journey! I feel like I am barely grasping all ahead and yet people seem to be already wanting to join what God may be doing.
We left at different times on Friday and stayed at my boy Chad’s house. Yep. He put us up and found housing for all of us! It is amazing to have people we know who are helping us in anyway during this process.
Woke up Saturday morning and I got to share my heart and passion for what we believe God is leading us to do in this city. Then we got to tour Chad’s church. They are a church plant in Orlando and have been in their location for somewhere around 3 years. Running 3 services (one on Saturday night) and have around 700 attending. The lead Pastor is Rodney Gage and they have been incredible already during this time. Touring and hearing their story got our thoughts swirling! We look forward to working with them and gleaning from them in the future.
We spent the afternoon driving around what we believe is the quadrant of the city God is placing us in. We don’t know an exact location right now, and may not for a while. However, we do feel like we keep returning to the same area every time we come back. I saw this area over a year ago as God began to work on me. I love the area, the diversity and the feel of being near the pulse of the city.
We spent Saturday night simply enjoying each other. We had a blast with the group. They were fun to get to know more and it seemed as if we meshed well. Mexican and then to Downtown Disney…
It’s crazy to think that some of the people in this picture will soon be relocating and eventually will be part of the very first stories we tell as the beginning of Genesis Church. Also crazy to think that many of them will find new homes and new careers just to play a part.
On Sunday we went to Fellowship Orlando where many of us will attend until the launch of our church. Rodney did a great job teaching and really encouraged our team with some of his own personal stories. We look forward to working with them in the city of Orlando.
As Sunday continued to unfold myself and some drove around more and got a better glimpse of housing and neighborhoods in Orlando, others took the time to just enjoy the many perks of living in a great place. One being the fact that Cocoa Beach is just a 45 minute drive from where we are at. The kids with us had a blast. It was 71 degrees on Sunday in Orlando and 14 back in Atlanta – Crazy!
This trip was to take those interested and let them get a glimpse of what it means to leave home and sacrifice everything to be a part of this. Myself and my two future staff members have been praying that God would send people not just from here, but all over to play a part in being the core foundation of Genesis Church. What is God up to? I don’t know. But that’s part of the joy in serving a God who is full of mystery, because when it all reveals itself, He gets the glory.
Please pray for those who went that God would give them clarity and truly allow them to see the sacrifice and reward of doing something like this. Pray for us as we continue in the process. I have a house to sell, money to raise and a lot more ahead of me.
May God be made famous through this process and may we stand in amazement of what He does.

Incredible…
January 9, 2009
I wanted to wake up today and write to the world how amazing the man known as”Tebow” is. Brag and say to everyone; “I told you so!” Two championships and a Heisman trophy in 3 years. Last night he was once again amazing as the Gators won the National Championship. Yep, I’m happy today. But…
…As incredible as that is, yesterday even more incredible things were taking place. My wife has a huge heart to help people. About 4 years ago I watched as my wife began on her own to rally people in helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina who had come to Atlanta as their homes had been destroyed. Next thing I knew we were delivering truck loads of furniture, beds, clothes, supplies, toiletries and even eating Chinese takeout on the floor in some of their apartments with them. It was truly incredible and life changing for us. Well, yesterday she was at it again and you can play a part — click HERE to read.
New Study Material – YES!
January 7, 2009Growing up I never read through an entire book. Actually I faked half my book reports. Seriously! Not good, I know. In college my first year I even took all the classes my girlfriend took, just so i did not have to buy a book and could just get the info from her… Fastforward to 2009… my wife often laughs and says I am not the man she married. Why? because I love to read. I get all excited about reading and I read a lot. I love books that make me ask questions and wrestle. Can’t read the easy, “make you feel good books”. If I’m going to read I want to be stretched to think and rethink. I took some time off from reading books in the fall, so I am a little behind on my reading list. Yesterday I purchased some reading material that I have been waiting and waiting to read:

Surprised By Hope – Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection and the Mission of the Church/ N.T. Wright
I have read many of his books. Love them! I wanted this a while back and have heard from other friends how good it is. Can’t wait to start it tomorrow!

This is a stretch, because it’s a fiction book. I have NEVER read a fiction book!! But my friends, parents, brother, counselor and others have – so it’s time to check it out. They have raved about it. Made them think, wrestle and cry. Don’t know about the crying part over a book though

How (Not) to Speak of God / Peter Rollins
Don’t have a clue about this. But a friend of mine who is being mentored by someone I admire greatly and learn tons from told him to read it. So will I. Let you know about it as I get through this. Its not being printed anymore.

The Reason for God – Belief in an Age of Skepticism / Tim Keller
Never read anything by him. My friend Ellis Prince recommended this and a friend who pastors at a church that I met with in Orlando. Interested to see what Keller has to say.
These are my reading materials for the next month or two. As I get through them I hope to share with you some thoughts. What are you reading in 2009? What books would you recommend?
Legit.
December 7, 2008
SEC Champions! Sorry ‘Bama maybe next year. Oh yeah, by the way Tebow might come back! I hope so, that way I can go watch him a few more times once I move to Florida in the summer. What a game!
Out of it…
November 16, 2008
I have got so much going on inside my brain, this is exactly how I feel
Tired
Unable to think
Sick
Need sleep
Hating Jet Lag
Give me a day or two to recover and I will be sharing a ton with you about my trip to Africa and some exciting things happening with Genesis Church in Orlando.
What? Another Day in Africa!
November 12, 2008Yes. We have been stuck in Africa. We got to the airport only to found out our flight was cancalled. The plane had a bird fly into the engine and bend up two blades. Don’t want to fly home on that plane, but I don’t want to stay on this side of the world any longer either. I am ready to be home. Supposed to get home Thursday nigth. We will see. At least they put us up in a nice hotel. I would trade this in a heart beat to get home.
Coming back today
November 11, 2008We have a long day ahead of us. We don’t leave here till 9:00 tonight (4:00 pm U.S.). Lots of traveling. By the time we wake up we will be out and about for 30+ hours. I can’t wait to get home!!! I miss my wonderful wife and kids. See you soon. More pictures to come when I get back.
