Genesis (A New Beginning)

By timgrandstaff

Three days to go till our second “Community Gathering” night for Genesis! I am insanely jacked about what took place last week. It always feels good when you make a complete shift in everything you were doing, and it doesn’t flop :) Last week we started with 4 gatherings that go from one side of our county to the other. We also had two gatherings in the two counties around ours.  We are using coffee houses, a pizza deli, parks and anything else that will give us space to gather. I drove over 55 miles to see three of them in action and did not even have time to check out the fourth. This week we open one more gathering that is literally 45 minutes away!!! Is that crazy or what.

God has given us a unique vision to take Genesis to the community and reach people in their area, instead of building a program and trying to get them all to come to us. (which we spent all of last year trying to do) Working with young unmarried adults (18-29) can be difficult. Things you thought would work, just don’t. Much of your time is spent in trial and error.  The vision we are seeking is to grow from the outside-in, instead of the inside-out. Twice a month (the last two Thursdays Nights) we meet all over the community and in different counties. The other two times (first two Thursday Nights) a month all the gatherings come TOGETHER to worship, grow, connect and be spurred back into the world they walk in.

This I can’t wait for! We will begin this on September 4th (more to come on this) The idea of people coming to connect and worship with others who have been meeting and learning the same things miles and miles a part is just down right exciting!

Last week we had some amazing energy, our volunteers where pumped like never before and people were buzzing about what took place. Our volunteers and people were talking about how much they enjoyed engaging in conversations in a different environment. One girl managed to come into one of our gatherings, thinking it was open for business. Upon entering for a job application she was hit with; “welcome to Genesis”.  “What’s Genesis?” she said, “I’m here for a job application”. That group got a moment to talk with her, invite her to our church and on Sunday she showed up for the first time! That would have never happened if we were not out meeting in the community.

I am so excited to see how this takes off. If you want more info about what we are doing or where you can attend one of our gatherings click HERE.

I’m just excited to get on the ride…and I have no clue where it will go :)
